HOLDGATE CASTLE


HOLDGATE CASTLE

It dates from the 11th century when a 30 foot high circular motte was built, probably with a stone keep on the top. The D-shaped tower was added at the end of the 13th century by the Bishop of Bath & Wells and now forms part of the farmhouse.
