The 150 feet wide by 15 feet high motte surrounded by a ditch is all that remains of a castle built at the end of the 11th century and probably destroyed soon after. There are signs of its original bailey and earthworks to the south. In the mid seventeenth century a Civil War fort was built on its summit and this is the stonework that can now be seen. The fort is square with a round tower in each corner.
