CRAYKE CASTLE

CRAYKE CASTLE

The first structure here was a Norman motte and bailey castle on the summit of a hill overlooking the village. You can now see the ruins of the 15th century four storey fortified palace built by the Bishop of Durham that replaced it. The Great Chamber survives intact.
