The original fort which was used until c 150 AD was square in plan with sides measuring 345 feet on each side inside the ramparts and the outer double ditch. It was later levelled and replaced by a larger fort built in the 4th century that measured 603 feet by 406 feet. Only the earthworks now remain of the fort and the original roman road running through it.
