Glannaventa Fort guarded the port of Ravenglass and was probably started around AD70 - 78. Today the fort has vanished apart from the bath house which still has walls up to ten foot high.
Hardknott (Mediobogdum) Fort was built in stone between AD120's high on Hardknott Pass through the Cumbrian mountains on the Roman road from Ravenglass to Ambleside. The fort was abandoned 1800 years ago but the walls still stand six foot high.

Galava Fort on the northern tip of Lake Windermere at Ambleside was started in wood in AD79 and later rebuilt in stone, probably around AD130. The foundations can be seen by the lake.
