There is a 20 foot high motte with a large bailey surrounded by a ditch, close to the church. It is thought to date from 1140, but was never fortified with stone.
On a hill above there is a second motte at Hill Ground which overlooks the Lilbourne motte near the church (see lower photos). It is probably a siege castle dating from the 1150's Civil War.
