The motte of this early Norman castle from around 1070 is still visible, about 130 feet in diameter and 30 feet above ground level. There is an outer bailey with a protective rampart around it which is higher than the top of the motte as the castle was cut into a natural sloping ridge. There is also a second, smaller enclosure on the east side.
