RATLEY CASTLE

RATLEY CASTLE

Motte with double bailey castle near to the church dating from the 1140s, but probably abandoned within 50 years of being built. The stone from the outer wall was probably removed and used to build some of the houses in the village nearby. The fortification on the motte would have been made of wood.
