The remains of a motte and bailey castle are high on a conical shaped hill above Risca. It is thought the site was originally an iron age fort. The motte is 25 feet high, 150 feet in diameter and has a flat summit 50 feet in diameter. At the base of the motte there is a deep ditch, rock-cut in places.
